Christmas dinner at the Peysers

Val and Kim’s house is bustling with family tonight, and I like it! It’s also fun to still have the “kid’s table” full of college kids home for the holidays. And of course it’s a great chance to goof around with my Monica girly.

Thanksgiving with the family at our house

Not much to to share about Thanksgiving this year, but we did get a nice family photo of everyone. Happy turkey day!<

Visiting Monica in Berkeley with a stop at Bette's Diner

It’s always a treat to visit Monica up at school, and it’s especially great when we have breakfast at Bette’s Diner. I think Gabe had a special moment with Mark Twain.

Henleyville road race

The Henleyville road race was quite the drive, but well worth it as it was Gabe’s last race of the season. As he rolled out for the start, I couldn’t resist hopping on after they went by. I joined them for 2 of the 3 laps, then dropped off to avoid interfering with the race. I did roll forward from the back just to chat with Gabe for a few minutes right at the end. Unfortunately Gabe was feeling strong and joined the early break, but decided to fall back thinking they wouldn’t make it. Turns out the two other Cat 4s were in the break and finished first and second place. Third place was worth five bucks and a t-shirt though! ...

Folsom Cyclebration Omnium

Yesterday was a lot of fun, but unfortunately Gabe was a little sick this morning. He felt good enough to give the circuit race a go, but the salt accumulating on his lips tells me he was hurting. Good job hanging in there Gabe!

Folsom Cyclebration Omnium

Gabe, Bryan, Mack, and Matt are headed to the Sacramento area for the Folsom Cyclebration Omnium this weekend. It’s a great chance for most of the team to hang out and race together, though we’re definitely missing Tobin and Jake. The first race for Gabe is the criterium, with the time trial later in the day. No break could stay away today, and Gabe had some challenges moving up in the pack when he needed to. A decent mid pack finish, so chalk it up to more race experience. ...

Isle Royale with Charlotte

Time for one last canoe in the harbor before we have to head back across the big lake over to Copper Harbor. It would be a much quicker trip if we took the seaplane, but it’s going to be fantastic weather for the crossing. Goodbye Isle Royale, followed by a nice hello from Copper Harbor about 3 hours later.

Isle Royale with Charlotte

Yesterday was such a hard day on our feet, we’ll be doing a full day of boating and island hopping today instead. There are loads of small hikes around the small islands surrounding Isle Royale, and each one has it’s own surprises. We pull into Edisen Fishery for one of the highlights of the day. It’s a beautiful walk over to Rock Harbor Lighthouse after getting a glimpse into the life of true fisherman of old in the Scandanavian style. ...

Isle Royale with Charlotte

Today we’re hiking from Rock Harbor up to Mt Franklin again, then along the Greenstone Ridge further west to Mt Ojibway. Plenty of great views, signs along the trail, and a little bit of fall color. There are some awesome views from the top of the tower at Mt Ojibway, but it’s crazy hot and we’ve got a very long way to go still. It’s back down to Daisy Farm and a lunch break for some well earned rest. ...
