Not so tough kittens Vito and Capone

Valri’s new kittens are the talk of our house. They really are adorable, but I know it won’t be long before they’re cats.

The Nike Women's Marathon

The crew looks really psyched before the start. I have no idea how anyone gets up this early to go exercise. You know it’s early when the sun starts to rise in the middle of your run. A beautiful day greets our runners at the end of the run. Paula and her girls look like they had a really great time. And now for the always appreciated gift of Tiffany necklaces from tuxedo wearing fireman at the finish. ...

The Nike Women's Marathon

Charlotte is off to San Francisco to do her favorite running event of the year, the Nike Women’s Marathon. A bunch of her friends joined her this year. Including what looks like a very nice dinner (and dessert) before the big effort tomorrow morning. But first it’s time for a little shopping.

Nick's birthday with grandma Phoebe

The big man of the house knocks off yet another birthday. Pumpkin pie is still his favorite. I suppose having your birthday in the month of October makes something like that inevitable. Grandma Phoebe is in town this week, making it a very special birthday. You can probably tell I’m working on capturing nice portraits of everyone. They were ready to kill me if I took anymore. ...

Gabe and his pumpkins

Gabe took a few pictures of this year’s miniscule pumpkin collection. I’m sorry to say that the bigger one is pretty much our total harvest. Time to invest a bit more time and water into next year’s crop.

Hiking with Charlotte at Moore Creek Open Space

Charlotte took me through Pogonip up through Moore Creek Open Space. We were hoping to walk among the cows and get some nice photos. No cows, but a very nice view of the coast.

Backpacking in Denali National Park, Alaska

Last night was a mad dash to get things setup. We arrived at what looked like a good spot to camp, and then it started raining. I managed to get my gear on and tent up just in time, but Matt got a bit wet. Always fun to setup your tent on a bush. It’s best not to be picky when it’s dark and raining. We did manage to squeeze in some hot food on our last night in the park. ...

Backpacking in Denali National Park, Alaska

Finally, a decent night’s sleep again. I really needed it after the typhoon winds the other night. We’re pretty tired today from walking on the glacier yesterday, so it’s a little slow going this morning. Today we’ve got to make it back close to the road, so we can catch the morning camper bus back to park headquarters. I remember this river bar.

Backpacking in Denali National Park, Alaska

Last night was really rough. We heard later someone talking how we caught what was left of a typhoon in China. Sounded right to me. Matt and I spent the whole night waiting for our tent to get blown away as we got hit by at least 50 mph gusts. Twice I needed to get up to restake the tent, even though I worked hard to prep it before I went to bed. Man, it’s gonna be a long day. ...
