Fishing on Capitola Wharf
It’s getting dark soon, but there’s plenty of time to squeeze in a quick fishing trip over at the wharf. Gabe caught a few mackerel, jack smelt, and perch.

Nick’s working his first real summer job this year. Our friends Matt and Paula own a few restaurants on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and they were nice enough to offer Nick the chance to work there. I never imagined getting such a cool job when I was a kid. Who wouldn’t buy a hot dog on a stick from this guy! Gabe and Monica enjoy a few rides after dropping Nick off for work. I never knew the turnstile was a ride. ...

Gabe and Monica headed over to Jason’s house for quite the birthday party. Lots of sliding around into pools of spaghetti, whipped cream, flax seeds, and other disgusting goo. Sounds like a blast, though Gabe thought it was a bit too disgusting I think.

Charlotte and Valri headed out to Chico this weekend to get Chris setup for his next year up at Chico State. Valri is into big industrial sites and Susian Bay in Benicia has plenty to offer. The mothball fleet stands ready to set sail. A rare sight inside the den of a modern day college student. Looks a lot neater than I recall from my old college days. Charlotte has a load of fun goofing around the campus. ...

Gabe, Doug, and I planned to take out the boat this morning for some fishing, but the fog had a different idea. It’s been beautiful every day, though a bit windy. That’s why today and the thick fog early was such a surprise. Trying to roll with the punches, we headed to the Santa Cruz Wharf for some fishing instead. We caught quite a few small fish including jack smelt, mackerel, anchovies, tiny flounder, and even a starfish. The day turned out very will indeed. ...

I am so jealous my family gets to see Scott without me. It looks like Monica and Annabel both have a thing for bacon. The extended Multer clan heads for the beach. Annabel is such a cutie. A few family photos before Charlotte and the kids head home to join their very lonely dad in Santa Cruz.

Charlotte and the kids head south in the car to visit with Scott and his family in Chicago. First stop has to be our favorite bishop. Next stop is Wisconsin and it’s not a surprise the kids need to get out of the car and run around a bit. Finally the family arrives in Chicago to be greeted by huge crowds for the big Lollapalooza event. Some fun at the Navy Pier tops off a very long day of driving. It’s great to see Uncle Scott, Bridget, and Annabel. Let’s also not forget it’s been a long time since everyone has seen Joe. ...

Charlotte and the kids make the last run out to the cliffs before heading for home. Sure wish I could have stayed just a little longer. A few of the great old buildings in historic Calumet.

Only Charlotte and the kids are left up north now. So it’s a quiet day over in Jacobsville. Gabe makes quite the find when they get back home. Looks like he’s got a new friend to keep him company now that Doug and Zach have left.

This summer has been loads of fun, and pulling out George’s boat is a sure indication that things are winding down.
