George and Ellen get married

Charlotte and I couldn’t make the wedding back east since we were in the hospital to have Nick induced. So while we have our little party in the hospital, George and Ellen tie the knot. The rest of Charlotte’s family made it no problem. Sure wish we could have been there too. !

A baby shower for Charlotte

A bunch of Charlotte’s friends held a baby shower for her at Valri’s house. Even Lynn made it up from San Diego.

Summertime in Bootjack

The many faces of family enjoying themselves in northern Michigan. A few photos of camp including Gordon’s house and grandma’s place. The table near the dock is a common meeting place. Of course we spend most of the day hanging out at the dock. Charlotte and I visit grandma’s place in Calumet. Pinochle is serious business up north and we get plenty of games in almost every night. ...

Lynn's wedding

We’re off to New York for our good friend Lynn’s wedding to Peter. Charlotte was Lynn’s maid of honor. The ceremony went off perfectly, though this was my first full Catholic event and a bit longer than I was used to. Charlotte looked so great. The reception was a blast. I’m sure it’s a night everyone will remember, especially the new happy couple.

Thanksgiving at Valri's house

Charlotte and I are down in Santa Cruz for Thanksgiving dinner at Valri’s house. Pam and Lyle came down from Half Moon Bay with us. We’re also joined by our friend Stewart who’s down from Berkeley. Chris is looking very sharp in his little outfit.

Hiking in Yosemite with Scott

Scott’s in town visiting, so we decide to take a hiking trip out to Yosemite. We start the hike at Glacier Point and go as far as Scott can last. An old friend from our Colorado days is in town as well, and he joins us for the hike. Charlotte is busy working out our route, while I gear up for the trip. Lots of spectacular scenery along the way. We pass quite a few waterfalls on this trail. It’s very nice starting at the top of the canyon rather than the valley floor. You also get lots of fantastic views of Half Dome and other peaks. ...

Scott visits Santa Cruz

We make a visit to Santa Cruz while my brother Scott is in town. We check out the the view from the wharf. The boardwalk looks like a lot of fun also. We then head out to Steamer Lane and the surfing museum. There’s a nice view of a sailing regatta and someone catching a wave. It’s always a nice day to visit Santa Cruz. It’s really quite a warm spot in comparison to home in Half Moon Bay. ...

Enjoying the day in Montara

My brother Scott and our friends Brian, Pam, and Lyle are over the house for the day. Our backyard backs onto state property, so there’s plenty of room to play. It’s a good day to enjoy the swing.

Fun and work in Bootjack

The dock is so peaceful and inviting. One would think that vacationing in Bootjack is all relaxation, swimming, boating, fishing, and all kinds of other fun things. You would be mistaken. Everyone needs to pitch in and work together on the wood pile every year. Gordon relies on this weed for heating in the winter, and it’s a small price to pay for all the hospitality and good times. It’s also a great chance to work up a sweat and get bit by the really big mosquitoes that buzz around the sawdust. ...

Backpacking in the Trinity Alps

Charlotte and I are headed up to the Trinity Alps north of Mt. Shasta. We hear that the backpacking is great up there, and it’s remote enough to remind us of hiking in Colorado. Mt. Shasta is a great site on the way up. The hike is very steep as we climb through Long Canyon. It’s a nice hike and we welcome the rest when we break for camp. ...
