Charlotte and David get married

The big event was held at the Half Moon Bay Methodist church. It’s a beautiful old church and the perfect size for our relatively small group. Everyone is gathering for the ceremony. Everything is kind of a blur to me. I am so excited to marry the love of my life. The wedding was beautiful. All I could do was keep looking at my new wife and try to keep my legs from shaking. I’m sure everyone else in the congregation had a much easier time. ...

The wedding reception

We had the reception in Ocean Colony in Half Moon Bay. It’s a beautiful golf course with the reception area on a bluff overlooking the Pacific ocean. We were also lucky to get a sunny day. Half Moon Bay is well known for its fog. The new couple ready for some fun. There’s a great collection of photos of everyone that came for the party. It’s funny how much more fun everyone seems to have as the night wears on. There might be a connection to the never ending stream of alcohol. ...

Charlotte's bridal shower

Charlotte’s shower was a busy affair. Lots of family where in town for the wedding. Here’s a few converging on the event. Not quite sure what I’m doing hanging around here. Plenty to catch up on for everyone that attended. Little Chris was the only boy to crash the party. Here are two generations of Hoyem sisters.

David and Charlotte's dinner party

We held a big dinner party the night before the wedding at our house in Montara. There were plenty of friends and family. It was a great informal way to catch up with many people we hadn’t seen in a long time. Both Charlotte and I have family mainly back in Michigan and New York.

David's bachelor party

Luckily there aren’t a lot of pictures from this party. We really didn’t get out of hand, but there certainly was no shortage of gag gifts. Mike brought the Hawaiian leis, but failed to bring the Hawaiian dancers.

Friends visiting in Montara

Charlotte and I do a bit of posing by our house in Montara. That tree swing was always a lot of fun. Our good friends Lynn, Scott, Donna, and Stewart are here from over the hill. More good friends, Pam and Lyle, live down in Half Moon Bay just down the road. Montara state beach is just a short walk from the house. We head down there very frequently. Another beach a little further south is a busy surfing spot. Every morning on the way to work we see loads of surfers hanging our in the water. ...

Our home in Montara

Our very first home is so awesome. It backs onto state land, which gives us loads of room. It’s really a welcome change from renting in Cupertino. Especially after coming from Colorado. There’s a great path going further into the woods that passes a beautiful flower field. In the other direction we often walk to the beach or up Montara mountain. The back deck is also a great place for me to work on my bike. Nothing like cleaning a chain on your very own deck while you enjoy a beautiful day in Montara. ...

Charlotte and Lynn backpacking at Moose Lake

Charlotte and Lynn headed out to Sequoia National Park to do some backpacking out to Moose Lake. The girls are missing Colorado a whole lot and need an alpine fix. It’s a very exposed area, but the terrain is very stunning. Looks a bit colder at camp, but I’m sure they’re ready for the break. Sure wish I could have gone.

Backpacking to Half Dome

Charlotte and I hooked up with our friends Lynn, Dave, and Lori for a backpacking trip in Yosemite to Half Dome. We made our way from the valley up Nevada falls. No shortage of water along the way on this hike. We made our first stop in little Yosemite valley before heading up to the top of Half Dome. The hike is a never ending series of steps carved into the granite. Good thing we left the packs back at camp. Lynn decided to haul her stuff up to the top and spend the night. At the top of the steps we all take a rest and a photo opportunity. ...

Charlotte and Lynn hike to May Lake in Tuolumne meadows

Charlotte and Lynn headed out to Yosemite to hike inTuolumne Meadows. They took a trail that went to May Lake. They’re both working hard to see what California has to offer in comparison to Colorado.
