Harlequin’s Dance: A Story WIP

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

“I love you today, I love you tomorrow and forever my little Pandora.” She whispered shutting the door behind her with a soft but audible click as it sealed off all the light except for my little dancing light next to my bed on a bedpost. My eyes where slowly closing as I watched the little princess emit different colors casting shadows on my walls. I sighed sleepily shutting out the world as I slipped into sweet dreams of my four year old life. A click woke me up. I curled up not wishing to be disturbed but my eyes watched as the door opened slowly. I looked away and tried to go back to sleep. Footsteps approaching across my carpet floors towards my bed.

“Ma?” I say drowsily and try to sit up as I look at the woman across from my bed. “Da?” I say curiously.

“Hello honey, my you are a perfect little creature aren’t you?” an unfamiliar voice said softly and lovingly.

I turn around to look at the open door, “Ma?” I say questioningly. The woman approaches my bed and I shrink away in fright. She stretches out her arms for me and I scream as her cold fingers brush my pudgy arms. “MA! MA!” I scream pulling away from the stranger who tries to shush me. Her cold fingers turn into talons and grab my arms roughly. Her nails dig into my soft flesh as I whimper and start to cry. I can’t scream any more as she ensnares me pulling me to her.

“You’re safe now my darling,” she scoops me up in her freezing arms, they are wet from the outside snow. I whimper softly unable to scream. “ You’re mine now.” She whispers clutching my little body to her.

“Pandora?” a confused voice from the hall calls, a light flicks on in the hallway. I whimper again trying to yell. The woman looks up towards the hall and walks briskly towards the open door, me still in her arms bundled up in my blankie. She picks something out of her back pocket and shows it to me. It is shiny and black. I shrink away from it. She moves into the hallway, I see my mom and dad there. Their faces turn into horrified masks as they see me with the woman. She points the black object at them and they freeze. She starts to back towards the stairs still holding it towards them, they don’t move.

“Please don’t take my baby,” My mom pleads “ we will give you anything you want, just don’t harm her.” She begs holding her arms toward us as if to take me back.

The woman laughs and says, “She is all I want.” She points the thing at my mom. My dad lunges for us but the woman back pedals and points the thing at me. I turn to look at it, it has a little whole in the end; I look at it and hear a click come from it. My mom is sobbing now and my dad stares in horror. I reach for the gun with both hands and place them on the little hole. My dad grabs something while she isn’t looking ad tries to hit her with it but the click comes again and I try to push it away. Then it got really hot, there was a loud bang. Everything else was blurry and numb as the woman ran down the stairs with me in hand and out the door into the snow.

“Pandora!” I hear my mother scream after me as I am carried away into a world of darkness. So cold, and so numb inside and out.

Darkness is the only thing I remember, soon it was all I remembered at all. Mom was a thing of the past, so was warmth and love. It wasn’t part of my new life; it wasn’t part of me at all just a shadow of a very different time. Darkness became my whole life, not necessarily in a bad way. It was just the spectrum I viewed things through now instead of light like everyone else. I am special. I am special, that was what they always told me. I never understood, I still don’t; I’m not special we are all capable of what I do we just have to open our eyes.

Crab Pot

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I am a huge fan of the television show called Man v. Food on the travel channel. So naturally when in Seattle I checked out the places he went to on his show, one of them was a seafood eatery called the Crab Pot. It has something called a Sea Feast, and it truly is. They bring out a giant pot filled with crab, mussels, clams, sausage, potatoes, and shrimp, then dump it onto your table. There are no forks or knives just a mallet and a little picking fork. It really is a battle with your food.

My mom and I had a lot of fun going at our food. Personally I was having fun with the shrimp that were still full clothed. I named mine Jerry. Then I ate him. Sorry Jerry.

Anyway, the food was good and I learned some new things about myself.

  1. I am a master at de-shelling crab. I would get in there with my mallet, whack the crap out of it and like magic the entire piece of crab meat would come out untouched and ready for devouring. Yes, I am just that talented.
  2. I don’t like mussels or clams. I had never tried them before so I tired them there. They just don’t work with me, what can I say.
  3. I am definitely a kid at heart. I basically played with my food the entire time. It is hard not to when they give you a bib, a hammer and a pile full of food and say go at it. I mean what did they expect? My dad would have had a lot of fun there I believe.

It is a good place to just act like a kid and get messy with your food, and don’t be afraid to play with your food. They give you a whole roll of wet naps basically when you are done. Seriously though, you use all of them. It is really messy, really fun, and I recommend going for some fun food in Seattle.

I’m Seventeen!

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

So today is my birthday and I am seventeen years of age. This is a shout out to all of my friends who gave me things, hugged me, and said happy birthday. Leave me a comment to say happy birthday! I love all of you!

Basically two of my best friends gave me a boat load of balloons, literally. I think there was like fifteen. They swallowed me and everyone who was brave enough to come within a five meter diameter of me. (yes I said meter because I think American measurements are stupid).

Anyway, I have a ton of sweets that my family are quickly devouring as I write, and today was a great birthday thanks to everyone.

Yet again, thanks for a good seventeenth birthday.

Parrot Friend

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I had the pleasure of meeting an extremely talented African Gray Parrot at Pike’s Place Market. On a street corner a man was performing with his bird. It was amazing. He could play dead, be thrown up into the air and do a 360, meow, and do flips on your hand. Truly incredible. I even got to hold him.

Just one of many weird things we encountered in Pike’s Place Market. Here is a little video I took.

RIP: My Big Leaf

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

In University of Washington I found a gigantic leaf. IMG_7422

Yes, that leaf is as big as my torso. I loved that leaf for 48 hours but sadly I had to let it go when I got on the airport to leave. We had some good times walking around on campus and everyone on the tour commenting on it. Good times, good times. I wish it could have come with me, but I couldn’t put it in my bag.

So I did what any normal person would do. I threw it off the top of a parking garage. Oh wait, that isn’t normal. Oh well, my leaf deserved an abormal departure because it was so abnormal. I let it go and watched it fall to the ground five stories below.

In retrospect this wasn’t such a good idea becuase it could have landed on a car windowshiled which would have been very bad due to its huge proportions.

However this did not happen, it drifed down to the sidewalk where it lay forever as far as my knowledge will ever go. I hope someone else picked it up and realized how cool it was. Otherwise it will probably pass of as a piece of trash to the rest of the world who couldn’t care enough to stop and notice beauty lying in the middle of the street. Well at least you know about it now.

Good bye my leaf, I will miss you. I do know the irony about writing 300 words all about a leaf I found. I don’t care.

Pike Place Market

IMG_7880 IMG_7763

Pike Place Market in Seattle really was an extraordinary experience. There were so many people, so many colors, and so much life. People just offer you food, sing and laugh, it really is a place to see. There will be many more photos from here coming up so stay tuned.

Oh and a lady walked into the back of a car and whipped out. Funny but sad.

Here are some color pictures of the market. The first is a dried pepper chain, (mom bought one) and of course the classic fruit line up. I can’t wait to go back again.

University of Washington

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

We visited UW as a possible college for me and it was amazing. This campus is beautiful. They said they have 17 libraries which suits my fancy and they are right on the water. With it being fall there is so much color here and vibrancy in everything even though it is gray out. The architecture is also amazing. The building I would probably be in is called Savory which is in the most beautiful part of campus, the quad.

After all the tours we sat down to take some creeper photos, which we had monumental fun with. Lots of interesting people with some costumes since Halloween is tomorrow.

Washington Plane and Arrival

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Well what can I say, it’s Seattle and it’s beautiful. I really love it here. Weather isn’t so bad, windy mostly with just a little rain last night. So far the journey has been great. Our flight went smoothly with lots of beautiful sunset pictures from an airplane window ( from my normal taking pictures from a car window to  a plane window.)

IMG_7268

We had a very witty flight attendant announcer also. She was full of humor yesterday I guess with lines like “Well duh, we just have to make this announcement everyday!” (in regards to smoking on the plane). Very interesting indeed, the world is full of strange people.

I think I am magic when it comes to baggage claim because I used my powers to make both our bags appear first. So we got out of there fast and got our car which is a nice Toyota corolla. The place where we picked up our car was very strange. It had a bird noise imitator that just kept going off routinely indoors. I didn’t quite understand the allure in it because it was extremely annoying. Oh and our GPS that we got was a total piece of crap. Besides that everything is good. Tomorrow University of Washington.

Travel Update: Seattle Adventure

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Sitting in an airport with my super travel buddy, my mom. Drinking Starbucks and perfecting the skill that is creeper photos.

We prefer cars, simple as that.  We are road trippin’ travel buddies not air trippin’. It just isn’t the same. So much is lost when you travel by airplane, all you see is your destination not what is in between. I know it sounds corny and cliche but it really is about the journey not your destination. I have not gone on an airplane for about two and a half years now. So naturally this is my first flight in a while and I have practically no idea what I am doing.

I have already forgotten my book, the Scarlet Letter. No chapstick, what is a girl to do? Well at least I didn’t loose my knives like Nick or go to the wrong airport…. like someone.

Looking forward to Seattle and being on  an airplane totally jacked up on chocolate frappuccino goodness. Mom is pounding back the ice coffee, this is going to be a fun trip.

Tough Love

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

hahaha What does this look like to you? Me, I think it looks like a drag queen being abused by some strange deranged person. Actually, that is just me being attacked by my friends.

Can you tell how much my friends love me? 🙂 Well I love them no matter what they do to me. Let me give you a brief glimpse of my life through this picture.

I hate it when people touch my hair. Two of my best friends attacked me, dragged me out onto the grassy knoll, ditched me, then tackeled me, dragged me back to our spot, then held me down and put my hair into the most hideous pair of pig tails you will ever see.

Yah, that is my normal day. That and my retailiation of getting them back, that part is yet to come. 😉

People say I am weird, but what they don’t get is that my friends are just as weird as me in their own way. That is why I love them. They attack me, I attack them back, that is my life and I am pretty content with that.
