Temple Guardians

The victory temples of old stand a solitary vigil in the midst of a modern city that pays them little heed. Four temples, fallen to ruin and decay, walled in by tram lines, bus stops, towering shops, and a never ending flow of people. They once were celebrations of victory, temples dedicated to the gods that the Romans believed helped them gain victory, their remnants lie about the enclosure like an architecture bone yard of the ancients.

The only beings that set foot down there, the ones who have come to call this place their home, are the guardians of the temples, the abandoned felines that prowl the ruins. Victory temples turned cat sanctuary, these guardians of the past watch over what has been left behind after the decay of time set it’s claws into the crumbling facade of victory. These are creatures of desperation, creatures of hardship, vigilance and wariness. They watch from below, or from the pedestals where once figures of gods stood. They are the gods of this place now.

Brutalized by a city that does not want them, these mangled guardians slowly wander the overgrown ruins. Some with tails cut off, others with injuries that have left them limping, some missing body parts, and many left with a mean or bitter temperament towards the humans that must have abandoned them and left them to the streets of the city to survive. But others are kind guardians, their fur intact and a kind demeanor towards the few humans who visit them in their sanctuary.

I have sat and watched these mangled guardians, the battle scarred, the age torn, and the arched back hissing of two cats ill at ease and clawing for a fight. They are gods in their own right. Warriors of a city that have no place for them within its walls, but here, here in Largo Argentina, at the victory temples of old, they are guardians if not gods. A land of their own for them to sun bathe in, be fed by generous humans, fighting for the right of their land, and wander for endless hours amidst the decay of human ruins. Part of me wonders if they take a strange pleasure in being amidst the ruins of human activity, if they feel like lords of that which the humans failed to preserve. Forsaken by man, taken up by animals, it seems like the order of the world at hand.

Time Again

Monday, October 4th, 2010

I will find the time for you again
Another time
When time has stretched out
Like that old black cat
Just laying
Always laying there
When time has come back
Like the birds to my feeder
When time comes back
It will leave again
Flowing back home
Then out again
Time has drifted by my window
Knocking quietly
But leaves as I crack open my window
I leave a note for her
A little song
That says
When you come back
Come back again
I will be waiting
Waiting for you my friend
I seal my window
With that little scrap of paper
Left on the outside
Fluttering dangerously in the breeze
But it never flies away
It is still waiting
For time
Time to come back again
To cross this side of the tracks
And face me again
Why did you leave
Are the words
Words that left holes
In frosted glass
Words whispered
In a desperate time
That won’t leave now
Even though their meaning has
The cat is still stretched out
The birds have left the feeder
The love note has blown away
And the window is shut
But where are you?

Today I went to a high school graduation.  It was pretty thrilling.  I also have a new best friend.  His name is Sarcasm:

He and I go everywhere together.  One time, we went to a bonfire on the beach of the ocean.  The party was actually not that fun.  All they had to eat there was chicken, and who the heck likes chicken??????? Because my friend Sarcasm is so outspoken and hard to control, he made some hurtful but witty comments about the party and the person who threw it.  Needless to say, we were shunned.

We found a cat on the road it had been hit by a car very sad but what can I say Sarcasm would not let me stop. He ran over it again, then backed up over it, then said some more witty comments, then drove away.  I think he was drunk.

We then ate at Chef Wiu (which serves Italian food, contrary to popular belief), where they actually serve dead cat but they call it chicken.  I don’t see the reason to lie about this fact because I happen to like dead cat.  I eat it all the time and sometimes I even go out in the mornings and hunt and then make a cereal out of my kills.  It’s better to get your food nice and fresh because otherwise who knows where that stuff has been.  Like this one time, my friend Sarcasm had a chocolate bar.  He gave it to me, but not before he did some gross stuff with it (use your imagination…).  And I ate it.

Because chocolate bars are supposed to be brown, right?

Well, lesson #1 of the night: Do not eat stuff that is brown, because then it is impossible to tell just where it has been.  Trust me, I definitely knew where the chocolate bar had been right after it put it in my mouth.  I actually liked it.  It changed my entire perspective of food, and now I like to try new and exotic things.

Did you know that there is a species of cat called the exotic????????? Yeah.  I didn’t either. Until today.

Also, on average, men spend about 28 minutes in the bathroom in the morning while women spend on average 32 minutes in the morning (John Tesh Radio Show).  Fascinating, right?

Also, turtles breathe out of their butts (common knowledge).  Yes.

Today my friend Sarcasm and I did something bad, aka something bad. You may be wondering what we did.  Well, I can’t tell you. But it has something to do with this joke…….

What did the egg say to the pot of boiling water?

It might take me a while to get hard.  I just got laid by some chick.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Funny, right?

Cheshire Grin

Smile real wide
Let the Cheshire cat inside
He has been waiting
To be let in
Ever patient
With a demon’s grin
Waiting outside your window
Looking inside your life
Looking for a way in
To your lonely little world
He has a fancy for games
And riddles it seems
So play a game
Let down your wall
And let the Cheshire cat in
Watch as its face splits open
With the devil’s smile
As it laughs
And laughs
And laughs
At you
And the game you call your life
Yet there is nothing
That you can do
As you sit paralyzed and wait
Insanity is knocking on your door
You have blocked and barricaded
And sealed all the locks
Yet every moment the clock
Ticks faster
Until all your time is lost
The cat is laughing
As you loose your mind
You plead for help
But it just keeps going
And going
As the pendulum swings faster
You pray for silence
And your eyes to block out
The demon’s smile
It is eating you away
Until you realize it is nothing
Just a cat and its smile
Just a laugh and a whisper
That all is not well
Look the cat in the eye
And walk away
Down the path you came
Smile real wide
At the forest’s darkness
And let the Cheshire cat inside

Thanks Mattie Leed for the amazing pot and the inspiration.

Strange cats seem to have some sort of attraction to me, here is another weird one on the dock in Morro Bay before my family and I went out kayaking.

Does this photo really need an explanation besides the fact that this cat is hideous. This makes me laugh so much every time I see it. Cats can truly be horrifying at times.
