Thanksgiving at Valri's house

Charlotte and I are down in Santa Cruz for Thanksgiving dinner at Valri’s house. Pam and Lyle came down from Half Moon Bay with us. We’re also joined by our friend Stewart who’s down from Berkeley. Chris is looking very sharp in his little outfit.

Hiking in Yosemite with Scott

Scott’s in town visiting, so we decide to take a hiking trip out to Yosemite. We start the hike at Glacier Point and go as far as Scott can last. An old friend from our Colorado days is in town as well, and he joins us for the hike.

Charlotte is busy working out our route, while I gear up for the trip.

Lots of spectacular scenery along the way. We pass quite a few waterfalls on this trail. It’s very nice starting at the top of the canyon rather than the valley floor. You also get lots of fantastic views of Half Dome and other peaks.

Scott visits Santa Cruz

We make a visit to Santa Cruz while my brother Scott is in town. We check out the the view from the wharf. The boardwalk looks like a lot of fun also.

We then head out to Steamer Lane and the surfing museum. There’s a nice view of a sailing regatta and someone catching a wave. It’s always a nice day to visit Santa Cruz. It’s really quite a warm spot in comparison to home in Half Moon Bay.

Enjoying the day in Montara

My brother Scott and our friends Brian, Pam, and Lyle are over the house for the day. Our backyard backs onto state property, so there’s plenty of room to play. It’s a good day to enjoy the swing.

Fun and work in Bootjack

The dock is so peaceful and inviting. One would think that vacationing in Bootjack is all relaxation, swimming, boating, fishing, and all kinds of other fun things.

You would be mistaken. Everyone needs to pitch in and work together on the wood pile every year. Gordon relies on this weed for heating in the winter, and it’s a small price to pay for all the hospitality and good times. It’s also a great chance to work up a sweat and get bit by the really big mosquitoes that buzz around the sawdust.

Backpacking in the Trinity Alps

Charlotte and I are headed up to the Trinity Alps north of Mt. Shasta. We hear that the backpacking is great up there, and it’s remote enough to remind us of hiking in Colorado. Mt. Shasta is a great site on the way up.

The hike is very steep as we climb through Long Canyon. It’s a nice hike and we welcome the rest when we break for camp.

Jana comes for a visit

Charlotte’s friend Jana from Colorado has come out for a visit. We make a trip up to San Francisco on a windy day.

On a drive through the back country we come across a very cool red barn. It makes a great excuse for a stop along the way.

The honeymoon

We didn’t do the big honeymoon thing after we got married. We decided to do a local trip and save the big trip for another day. We headed out to Lake Tahoe some exploring, hiking, and time away together.

The peaks aren’t huge around the lake, but the view certainly is amazing.

On the way home, we stopped at Virginia City in Nevada. Pretty cool old spot with plenty of history.

A little golf before getting married

I had a bit of time before we needed to head out to the church for the wedding. What better way to pass the time then wondering out on the golf course for a little putting. Mike and Chris help keep me relaxed on what will be a big day.

Charlotte and David get married

The big event was held at the Half Moon Bay Methodist church. It’s a beautiful old church and the perfect size for our relatively small group.

Everyone is gathering for the ceremony. Everything is kind of a blur to me. I am so excited to marry the love of my life.

The wedding was beautiful. All I could do was keep looking at my new wife and try to keep my legs from shaking. I’m sure everyone else in the congregation had a much easier time.

We had the reception in Ocean Colony in Half Moon Bay. It’s a beautiful golf course with the reception area on a bluff overlooking the Pacific ocean. We were also lucky to get a sunny day. Half Moon Bay is well known for its fog.

There’s a great collection of photos of everyone that came for the party.

It’s funny how much more fun everyone seems to have as the night wears on. There might be a connection to the never ending stream of alcohol.

Charlotte's bridal shower

Charlotte’s shower was a busy affair. Lots of family where in town for the wedding. Here’s a few converging on the event. Not quite sure what I’m doing hanging around here.

Plenty to catch up on for everyone that attended. Little Chris was the only boy to crash the party.

We held a big dinner party the night before the wedding at our house in Montara. There were plenty of friends and family. It was a great informal way to catch up with many people we hadn’t seen in a long time. Both Charlotte and I have family mainly back in Michigan and New York.

Luckily there aren’t a lot of pictures from this party. We really didn’t get out of hand, but there certainly was no shortage of gag gifts. Mike brought the Hawaiian leis, but failed to bring the Hawaiian dancers.
