Having fun in San Jose

The family came to visit me at work today. Gabe is trying to give me advice on the current software project. We headed over to the plaza area of San Jose for the Christmas in the Park event. Every year they set up displays for people to enjoy. There’s also skating and other things to do at this time of year. We also headed over to the Tech museum. It’s a fun collection of technology related interactive displays. Learn how a computer works, experiment with gravity and optics, see an IMAX movie, and make believe your a San Jose Sharks goalie just like Nick. ...

Christmas at Valri's house

It’s that time of year again where the Multers, the Peysers, and the Hoyems converge on Val and Kim’s house for Christmas dinner. We have 3 kids, George has 3 also, and Kim has 4 boys. They have the best time when they all get together like this. It’s also a great time for everyone to catch up on events. There’s plenty of milling around in the kitchen before dinner is ready. ...

Hawaii with Phoebe and the family

Time for a real vacation! We’re off to the Big Island of Hawaii with my mom. We stayed at the Mauna Lani villas. This place is so unbelievably beautiful. I am definitely not going to want to go home. Our place is on a series of inland ponds that the native Hawaiians built for fish farming. The kids have tons of places to run around and play. We spent a lot of time over by the snorkeling area. We could spend the whole day there on the beach. There was also a great little restaurant we enjoyed lunch at regularly. I’m hanging out in my regular attire. I wish I had some underwater photos from our many snorkeling trips. The reef is spectacular and all the kids got the hang of it after a while. ...

Charlotte and Lynn in Las Vegas

Charlotte is off for fun in sin city with her good friend Lynn. All these photos she came back with look pretty innocuous. I hope she was a good girl.

Halloween at school and jack-o-lanterns

Monica, and Nick dress up for Halloween at school. Monica looks great as a black lipped witch. Nick does the scary skeleton man. It’s looking very busy at school with tasty treats everywhere. At home Gabe does the Pokemon look and shows off his jack-o-lantern. Nick and Monica did a great job on theirs as well.

David visits fusionOne Japan

I’m off to Japan and the fusionOne KK offices there. I have a great view from my office. The rest of the crew that joined me on this trip work out of the conference room. Koichi is the president and does a fantastic job showing me the best Japan has to offer. I also had a chance to check out a trade show where we were exhibiting. The booth looks great, but the marketing seems a little odd to me. ...

David and Charlotte in Hong Kong

Charlotte was able to join me on a business trip to Hong Kong. We stayed at the Conrad International hotel. I had to spend everyday locked up with a bunch of computer geeks, while Charlotte toured all over the city. I did manage to get away for one tourist trip to Lantau. There’s a beautiful monastery on the island where we wondered around for quite some time. We then hiked up to the gigantic bronze Buddha that is the highlight of the entire island. Pictures can’t really capture the size of it. Wish we had more pictures. ...

Bootjack

We’re in Bootjack again for another fun summer. Charlotte and Karen pose on the dock for the camera. Karen does some rock picking, and Kim looks like he’s ready to relax. Monica loves hanging out on the dock and swimming so much, she does a little dance for us. Gabe loves going out on the boats. He convinces me to take out the canoe, but he needs to work on his paddling skills. A new treat this summer is an inflatable clear bottom boat. I don’t know that it worked too well, but it was fun while it lasted. ...

fusionOne advertising blitz

The biggest startup I ever did was fusionOne. We never did anything in a small way, and the launch of the revolutionary Internet synchronization service was no exception. We had advertisements running on TV, billboards along Highway 101, big signs in the airports, and even more I probably didn’t even know about. They were pretty funny for the time, so I figure it was worth saving for posterity. Here’s an excerpt from one of the advertising site at the time: ...
