Road trip to the Tobacco River

Today it’s a trip just past Gay to the Tobacco River. Though the bugs have been nearly non-existent this year, today we are finally attacked by flies. They don’t seem to mind the kids too much as a major engineering project is underway. The result of all these efforts is a nice little river chute. It’s not much of a ride, but it was all worth it.

Road trip to Copper Harbor

It’s going to be a big day today. First it’s a trip to a nice Portage fishing spot Charlotte really likes. No luck with the fish this time, but they really enjoy playing at the remote beach. Next we head out with Phoebe to Copper Harbor and then down the north coast via Brockway Mountain Drive. We stop in Eagle River for a great dinner at Fitzgerald’s. A bit more rock picking along with yet another amazing sunset. ...

Road trip to McLain State Park

Another beautiful day to take advantage of. We head out with Phoebe to McLain State Park to get a view from the north entry. The pier and the beach were really awesome. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve gone here.

Another great day in Bootjack

The morning starts with me and my clone enjoying sleeping in a bit. Followed by smiling faces and poking around the little pond. Yet another pile of fish for Gabe the fishmaster.

Time to launch the U.S.S. George and welcome Phoebe to Bootjack

George was nice enough to let us use his new boat until he gets up. So I’ve got the pleasure of launching his boat with a bit of help from Charlotte and Gabe. You know we’ll be doing lots of fishing from the boat. My mom came up for a week this year for the first time. It’s great having her up so it’s time to start showing her the sites. First stop is Jacobsville and the south entry. I love the way Portage and Superior are so different on each side of the entry. ...

Portage Lake fishing buddies

Gabe and Doug never seem to stop fishing no matter what time of day it is. Their latest thing is going out late for fishing in the canoe. I love the way they stand up the whole time.

Road trip to Freda and Redridge

Bootjack always means plenty of road trips since there’s so much to see right in the area. Looks like everyone is enjoying the drive out to Freda. No need to worry about traffic way out here. The old mining town of Freda is always a blast for the kids. Plenty of crumbling dangerous stuff to climb o, and tons of rock picking. Our next stop is the Redridge steel dam across the road. Gabe tries his hand at a little fishing while Charlotte captures a few of the local flowers. ...

Who needs summer camp when you've got Bootjack

Rose’s cabin is still looking good, though we’ve got a few maintenance items to attend to this year. Plenty of random happenings around the camp. Someone’s creative idea to put the trampoline into the lake turns out to be quite a hit. Annie brought her new kitten along for some fun. Needless to say, Monica was very pleased.

Bootjack is all about fishing and family

Looks like Gabe has landed his first big fish of the summer. That is sure one happy looking boy. Thanks for the help Uncle Gordy. Back at Rose’s cabin there’s some kind of deep discussion going on. It also looks like Gordon is a bit confused and dazed by Monica’s iPod selection.

Enjoying the day in Bootjack

Looks like Bootjack is as beautiful as ever. Gordon and his family are up north at the same time along with Valri and hers. Plenty of water, woods, and thimbleberries to go around. First stop was a trip to the top of Hungarian Falls.
