Driving to California - Visiting Karen, Kim

Charlotte, Nick, Monica, and Gracie are back on the road again. Today they left Bootjack very early in the morning and plan to make a few visits, and do a whole lot of miles. Some very pretty waterfalls along the way. Charlotte’s been looking forward to stopping in Madison to visit her sister Karen at her house for the very first time. Next stop is a visit with her friend Kim in Iowa. ...

Gracie wants to chase barges

Looks like it might be a two mile swim across the lake to catch that barge, and it’s moving pretty fast. I think Gracie would be willing to make a run of it if we’ll just open that porch door.

Pontoon trip to Jacobsville with George

I’m on my own back in California while Charlotte and the kids head out to Lake Superior via the south entry. Charlotte and Gabe had talked about visiting the cliffs across from the lighthouse along the west side of the entry. Looks like it was well worth the trip. The lake gets really shallow over there. Eagles, boats, cool trees and houses on this side of the lake also. ...

Another day in Bootjack

Just a few random photos after I left for California. Nick really liked that army jacket, while George kept snapping photos, and Gabe does some fishing with Zach.

Our annual trip to Copper Harbor

Every summer we head out for a road trip to Copper Harbor. This year Caroline is along for the ride. We decided to go up the long side of Brockway Mountain and then down into Copper Harbor. Monica then took us on another MTU inspired hike out to Hunter’s Point. It’s a nice easy walk out to the harbor entrance. The beach is covered with a ridiculous number of rocks. ...

Cliff cemetery, Dreamland, and storms in the Keewenaw

Today we’re driving all over the Keewenaw with any of the family that wants to join in. First stop is over at Calumet Waterworks. Monica visited Cliff Cemetery last week as part of her MTU class. Today she’s showing us around this very cool place. After a great lunch at The Hut, we head over to the rock shop. George and Caroline have never been here, and it’s a great chance to see some very nice agates. ...

Bootjack fun with the kids

Today the kids are being entertained on Rose’s dock. Charlie is demonstrating his special seagull feeding technique. That bread is awfully tasty. Later that evening Charlotte sneaks a few shots of the kids hanging out at the bonfire. It’s a common ritual up here in Bootjack. Late night fishing is also a regular thing with Gabe.

Family boat trip to Lake Superior

One of the prettiest places I like to go with the family is the cliffs in Jacobsville. The old lighthouse is up for sale again, and it looks like it needs some paint as well. It isn’t quite as spectacular as Pictured Rocks, but it works for me. Today we’ll be looking for a good place to pull into shore. Of course Gabe is looking to squeeze in a little fishing as well. ...

A tiny pike in Chassell

Today we’re headed over to Chassell since Gabe is convinced there’s a big pike just waiting for him. I really liked the look of that old building out on the lake, and Charlotte loves watching the eagles and herons go by. This certainly doesn’t look like the big pike Gabe was going for. It is awfully cute.

Pictured Rocks tour

After checking out the waterfalls in Munising, Charlotte and Monica head over the Pictured Rocks. The sights are very nice from the shore, but our intrepid duo are going all out and taking the boat tour. Looks a little cold out on the lake. Big sandy cliffs beckon to the girls. The view of Miners Castle from the water is well worth it. More pretty cliff views. ...
