Waterfalls of Munising

Charlotte and Monica are off for a private adventure today without the boys. They’re driving down to Pictured Rocks in Munising on Lake Superior. On the way, they did their own little waterfall tour. First stop is Horseshoe Falls. Just a short way down the road was Alger Falls. Not much to see here. Then it’s off to Wagner Falls. Charlotte enjoyed the nice little trail, and the falls weren’t too bad either. ...

Lunch at the Gratiot with a stop at Eagle River

Today the Multers and the Peysers are off to the mouth of the Gratiot River for some agate picking and some lunch. Nick has some fun building a small dam. It’s a man thing. The tailgate is also a good place to hang out. While the rest of us start looking for that needle in a haystack. Good thing Charlotte brought the marshmallows. We make a quick stop at the Eagle River dam and bridge. ...

Another day in Bootjack

Not much to show for today other than a little action out on Portage Lake. We spotted this rare, big, and beautiful sailing ship off in the distance. One of the Peysers enjoying the jet ski is a much more usual sight.

Another day of fishing for Gabe

Our friendly neighborhood bald eagle is perched in his usual spot. He’s always worth visiting whenever we head out fishing past the point. Another nice bass for Gabe, even if he’s just over the limit. The fish looks good with a pink tennis ball in his mouth. Not the best photo of a woodpecker, but they are fun to see. We squeeze in some lunch over in Houghton, so of course Gabe can’t resist a little fishing. Only the very biggest, and very smallest fish can make you so happy. Fish on a fingertip is trademarked by Multer.com. ...

Fishing at Portage south entry

Charlotte, Gabe, and I are off to the south entry to see if we can find any monster fish. We’ve caught a number of big fish here in the past, and I’m looking forward to exploring the area more fully. Gabe looks hopeful. While a bald eagle keeps us company. Unfortunately for him, some other birds didn’t like his company and drove him off. And look who we happen to run into out here, Valri and Doug. ...

Gabe catches a big smallmouth bass

Gabe lands another really nice fish. He’s so very proud of his latest catch. Later that day, Gabe and Doug head out for some fishing over the barge. Unfortunately they dropped the anchor a little too close. Looks like someone needs to jump in and get it. This family of ducks is enjoying the day. Success finds our intrepid fisherman heading back home. It’s fun watching them drag the aluminum boat up onto the shore. ...

Michigan Tech and fishing on the pond

Monica and Nick are each taking a week long class over atMichigan Tech. Nick is taking a forensics class, while Monica is taking creative writing. First we have to get them registered and make sure they know their way around. Back at home, Gabe does some fishing on the pond with a million mosquitoes.

Having fun in Jacobsville

The kids always have a great time in the water at Jacobsville. Monica can never get enough of the clear, cold water in Lake Superior. Gracie enjoys her two favorite pastimes, fetching and going in the lake. The pier makes for a dramatic photo showing the difference between Portage Lake and Lake Superior. What a great spot. Gabe and Doug enjoy themselves making perfect sand balls. I manage to catch a cool shot of Doug in the act of an attempted catch. ...

Bootjack family photos

Everyone didn’t show up for our group photo session, but Valri, Karen, Gordon’s family, and our family made it. Those Peyser boys can be tough to wrangle.

Cemeteries, agates, dinner, and a boat ride

Every year we like to visit Charlotte’s grandmother over at Lakeview Cemetery. It’s also a good chance to finally get some photos of family headstones for adding to our genealogy data. The next stop for today is Calumet Waterworks and some rock picking. Crazy Gabe walks around in his socks since he doesn’t have any water shoes. The rocks are very painful to walk on, as his great expressions shows. Charlotte seems to be having a good time as well. ...
