Devils Postpile, Mono Lake, and Tuolumne Meadows

Yesterday was a long drive up to Bishop, but the route up Highway 95 and then over to Bishop was really beautiful. We start nice the day early and head for Mammoth Lakes and Devils Postpile for some excellent hiking. We checked out the rock formations from above and below, and then hiked out to Rainbow Falls. Our next stop is Mono Lake. And then it’s up and over Tioga Pass into Yosemite via Tuolumne Meadows. I’ve really wanted to do some backpacking out this way, but permits are always so tough to come by. One of these days I’m thinking I’ll have to do the Pacific Crest Trail from here down to Whitney. One of these days. ...

A nice morning in the Grand Canyon

We arrived at the North Rim yesterday, and this morning it’s pretty cold, but that certainly doesn’t hinder any of the beauty of this place. Charlotte and I hike around the edge of the canyon, but we don’t have a lot of time today as we’ve got a long drive up to Bishop for our last night of the road trip.

Creeper Photo: Mantra

You were sitting out by the Boardwalk when a friend and I walked by. You had a mantra on a cardboard sign in front of you. It was nice to read it and talk with you. Thanks for the mantra and the picture, keep Santa Cruz weird.

Hiking Bryce Canyon, then off to the North Rim

We arrived in Bryce Canyon yesterday, so it’s time to dive into a new National Park to see what it has to offer. It’s a spectacular morning and a good chance to capture some great lighting. This is easily the most unique hike I’ve ever done. Everywhere you look there are amazing rock formations. The colors and quiet trails lead you on a wonderfully meandering path. We spend most of the day exploring as many areas as we can find. ...

Another hike in Zion, then it's off to Bryce

Yesterday was a great day of hiking in Zion, so this morning we’re headed to the Kolobs Canyon entrance for a hike on the Taylor Creek trail. The Double Arch Alcove at the end was an impressive sight. I hope to come back this way for some backpacking in the future. It looks like a fun multi-day hike across the park. A little of the wildlife and wildflowers along the way. ...

Hiking Zion with Charlotte

Charlotte and I are off for a big road trip to various national parks. Our first stop is Zion. After a long drive from Santa Cruz and a peaceful hotel night just outside the park, we head to the Angels Landing hike bright and early. The only problem is that it’s actually dark outside when we start hiking. Let’s just say we’ve got a few switchbacks to traverse before getting to the top of Scout Lookout. ...

1 Year Anniversary

So it is official now, I have had this blog up and running for a whole year. This time last year I decided that I would publish my own work and share what I thought and how I felt with the world. I just wanted to take a quick look back at some of my favorite works I have done, photographs and writing a like. Of course there was the Shoe Tree from last years road trip that we found out in Oregon. The dawn of the creeper photos early on in the beginning of the blog. Who could forget the somewhat haunting video of Hood doing his she wolf performance. One of my favorites, the baby shoe gangster. ...

Rainforest Red

The colors in the rainforest are stunning. The water and moisture bring out the color in everything making something ordinary into the most extraordinary experiences.
