- Enjoyed playing basketball with her grandchildren, even when wearing a dress! Excellent baker, made the best chocolate chip cookies and honeycake. Also known for her chicken fricassee. During the Great Depression, to give the men who came to the door asking for food some dignity, she would give them sandwiches in return for sweeping the walk. Worked as a commercial artist, loved to paint. Took care of Emma until her husband Abe was diagnosed with cancer. She was learning to drive so she could take Abe to his cancer treatments when he passed away, and the car was sold upon his death. Harriet created the most beautiful garden in her tiny backyard in Brooklyn, giving seeds away to everyone. After she moved to Buffalo, the day she returned home the hospital, she insisted on making Shabbat dinner for an ailing neighbor, something she did every week without telling anyone.
